My Answer to Rudyard Kipling

Take up the White Man's burden—
Send forth the best ye breed—
Go, bind your sons to exile
To serve your captives' need;
To wait, in heavy harness,
On fluttered folk and wild—
Your new-caught sullen peoples,
Half devil and half child.

Do not take up again this burden

Do not set forth your sons anymore

The World was the captive of the White Race once

But today we are free and chaotic - free like before

Your medicines may save our children-

But to you we are primitive beasts, half cooked, half raw

No desire we have to serve at your table

And dress in Western way, to cover our otherness more

Our otherness is in our souls - and not in ways we speak

Which you do not seem to comprehend, nor want to

So damn you with all your care and charity

And made up compassion for our suffering in peace and war

White Man - burden yourself with other problems

Of which you have plenty. Let us be ourselves, let us be ourselves.
