Luciano

Luciano Pavarotti died today, and I cried upon hearing the news. For all of us, irrespective of our interest in opera, he was an ultimate Opera singer, with his unique style, personality bringing joy of classical music to otherwise uninterested public. Opera, at its finest, is probably the greatest genre invented by classical western tradition, in that it is capable in bringing the human soul close to the pinnacle of contentment enriching and making it better. Drama, theatre, and music combine into a powerful spectacle that does not only entertain but uplifts our joyous souls into most divine of abodes, abode of peace ruled by angelical voices.

Rest in Peace.

He was a great singer with a unique voice. Powerful, delicate, rich and clear.

Verdi is one of my favourites, as I see he is yours. Are many Azerbaijanis into opera? Or are you unusual in that? What was Ottoman music like?

Sorry since you posted in the previous post.

Well you underestimate us, we have a decent if small Opera House and pride ourselves on having the first Muslim writing the Opera.

I would say reasonable, but small number of the middle classes.
Ottoman Court Music - extremely refined form of the oriental improvisation based mainly on religious or love poetry.

A very pretty opera house, it is, too. Listened to both the Soviet and current national anthems. Much prefer the latter. It sounds a bit like it could be the chorus of an opera.

Thanks!. It was incorporate into an opera during Soveit times..He wrote independence period anthem and then had to write Soviet anthem as well! It is very heroic anthem, even if in minor key.
